Cover supervisors are now a regular feature in secondary schools across the UK. Their main role is to provide cover for absent Teachers, delivering work that has been set by teaching staff. Many schools now have their own in house team of cover supervisors, enabling them to cope with a level of absence in house. Schools are now using Supply Agencies more and more to provide cover supervisors on a day to day or even long term basis.
There are no formal qualifications needed to become a cover supervisor, although a reasonable level of literacy, numeracy and oracy is a must. Successful cover supervisors have charisma, energy, patience, presence and a sense of humour.
All cover supervisors working for Academic Choice have undertaken our training course – details of which can be found on our training page.
Many graduates who are considering Teacher Training find becoming a cover supervisor very helpful. Not only does it provide a source of income, but also gives experience in schools which is essential when applying for a chosen Initial Teacher Training route.
Whatever your age or background, if you feel that you have the qualities to become a cover supervisor, contact us for an informal chat or complete the online application form.
We look forward to hearing from you very soon.
